Chur Switzerland Perth, Western Australia

Swiss Radio has a long history of broadcasting its programs in two languages, French and German. old reel As far back as 1980 it started on Radio 6NR 927 on the AM band.

At that time all the programs had to be pre-recorded on reels and handed in to an office at Kingsley Park.

Chur, in the south eastern area of Switzerland

Around 1986 Swiss Radio changed to live broadcasts with the help of a desk operator provided by Radio 6NR, and then from December 1988, it included a news broadcast with all the latest information direct from Switzerland, and had its own technician for the live broadcasts. In 1990 all ethnic programming was taken off the air by 6NR, which gave it the chance to change over to the newly established Radio 6EBAFM World Radio, broadcasting on 95.3 MHz on the FM band. At the beginning of December 1990, most of the ethnic groups that were members of the Multicultural Radio and Television Association (MRTA) started to broadcast their programs from the studios at View Street in North Perth. Around 1993 the MRTA purchased a unit at 386 Fitzgerald Street in North Perth and from then on, not only did the quality of the programs improve, but it also had a total of three studios available for live broadcasting or pre-recording of programs, equipped with phone talk-back lines, and at a later stage the internet was made available as well.

Since its early beginnings Swiss Radio has been going to air regularly on Tuesday evenings.

During 1995 Swiss Radio received an offer to broadcast an hour each week which was accepted by our main sponsor, the Swiss Club of Western Australia, and since then we have been broadcasting every Tuesday from 19'00 to 20'00h .........

On 22 of March 2009 the Swiss Club decided not to support the Swiss Radio anymore.

Swiss Radio was an independend group of 8 producers & large number of supporters and sponsors for a full year. At the Swiss Club AGM on 21-3-10 the members decided with 32 yes against 20 no votes to include and support Swiss Radio again

In February 2011 the newly elected Swiss Club committee put forward to reduce the payments for the swiss radio by 2/3 of the total costs, the radio group now has to find $2000.- per year to cover the rest of the broadcast costs

On 27-12-11 the decision to shut down the radio was done by James the convenor of the swiss radio, the cancellation letter was send to 6eba Radio with the message that the Swiss Radio will stop live programming on 31-1-12

6eba Radio which would like to keep the Swiss Radio going & is prepared to give a 3 Month period (feb/mar/apr) for a restart of the Swiss Radio. 6eba keeps the time slot reserved & will play swiss music from the computer archive on Tuesdays 19'00-20'00h, the Swiss Club on the other hand seems happy to see the Swiss Radio to be closed down........

31-1-12 has passed & Swiss Radio has closed it's doors.....
